SD cards & NextZXOS
The ZX Spectrum Next boots NextZXOS from an SD card. Bizmuth uses an SD card image file (a .img) in place of a physical card.
Getting an image
Bizmuth hosts a ready-to-run NextZXOS SD image on the Downloads page — the quickest way to get going (it’s also what the first-run assistant downloads). Any standard FAT32 Next image works too, e.g. from specnext.com or zxnext.uk.
Attaching an image
- In the app: Media → SD Card → Attach… — the chosen path is saved to your config and restored next launch.
- On the command line:
--sd path/to/card.img(also--sd0/--sd1for the two slots, and--sd-roto open read-only — see the Command-line reference).
Booting NextZXOS
With an image attached, the Next boots straight into NextZXOS.

Running software
Use the NextZXOS browser to find and launch programs on the card — .nex games, demos and dot-commands. Navigate with the cursor keys and press Enter to run.
